Introduction

This notice describes how Instant uses cookies.

The purpose of this Cookie Notice is to provide you, a user of Instant’s services and/or websites (we'll collectively call these the 'Services'), with clear information about the purposes for which Instant uses cookies and the choices you have when it comes to managing your cookie settings. It supplements the information contained in the Privacy Policy and explains how we, our business partners and our service providers use cookies and related technologies in the course of managing and providing our online services and our electronic communication to you.

Like most digital platforms and services, Instant may collect certain personal information automatically when you visit, interact with, or use our Services. In some cases, we may use cookies and related technologies described in this Cookie Notice to collect personal information, or to collect information that becomes personal information if we combine it with other information. We and our third-party partners and providers may also use other, related technologies to collect this information, such as web beacons, pixels, embedded scripts, location-identifying technologies and logging technologies (collectively, “cookies”).

If we change our privacy practices, we may update this Cookie Notice. When we make material changes to this Cookie Notice, we'll provide you with prominent notice as appropriate under the circumstances. For example, we may display a prominent notice within the Services or send you an email or device notification.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small pieces of text which are downloaded to your device, for example, when you visit a website. Cookies are useful because they allow Instant and our partners to uniquely recognise your device and support the improvement and continuity of your experience, for example by helping us to understand your preferences or past actions. You can find more general information about cookies at: https://allaboutcookies.org/.

We use a number of different cookies in our Services, including strictly necessary, performance, advertising, and social media or content cookies. Cookies make your browsing experience better by allowing the website to remember your actions and preferences. This means you don’t have to re-enter this information each time you return to the site or browse from one page to another. Cookies also provide information on how people use the website, for instance whether it’s their first time visiting or if they are a frequent visitor.

How do we use cookies?

Cookies do lots of different jobs, like letting you navigate between pages efficiently, remembering your preferences, and generally improving your user experience. They can also help to ensure that ads you see online are more relevant to you and your interests.

We use cookies and track IP addresses via our Services so we can improve our services provided by our Services and enhance your user experience. We use Cookies to ascertain which web pages are visited and how often, to make our Services more user friendly, to give you a better experience when you return to a website and to target advertising to you that we think you may be interested in. Cookies also allow us to save and recognise your Instant account information so you do not have to re-enter it every time you complete an action, like making a purchase via the Instant Checkout Service. Some cookies are necessary to allow you to browse our Services, use its features, and access secure areas. The use of these cookies is essential for the Services to work. For example, we use user-input cookies for the duration of a session to keep track of a user’s input when filling in forms.

Most web browsers automatically accept Cookies. You can find information specific to your browser under the “help” menu. You are free to decline our Cookies if your browser or browser add-on permits, unless our Cookies are required to prevent fraud or ensure the security of websites we control. However, declining our Cookies may interfere with your use of our Websites and Instant Services.

Instant uses two main categories of cookie: (1) strictly necessary cookies; and (2) optional cookies:

  1. Strictly Necessary Cookies: These cookies are set by Instant or a third party on our behalf, and are essential to enable you to use the features of our Services, such as technically delivering content and experiences, setting your privacy preferences, logging in, making payments or filling in forms. Without these cookies, our Services cannot be provided so you cannot decline them.

  2. Optional Cookies: Optional cookies may be 'first party cookies' or 'third party cookies'. First party cookies set directly by Instant or by a third party at our request. Third party cookies are set directly by a third party or set by Instant at the request of a third party, such as our analytics or advertising service providers.

Instant, or our partners, use optional cookies in the following ways:

  • Performance Cookies: These cookies collect information about how visitors use our Services. For example, these cookies allow us to count visits to our Services and to understand how visitors found the website. Web analytics that use cookies to gather data to enhance the performance of our Services fall into this category. For example, they may be used for testing designs and ensuring a consistent look and feel is maintained for the user. We may also obtain information from our email messages or other communications we send to you, including whether you opened or forwarded an email or clicked on any of its content. This information tells us about our communication effectiveness and helps us ensure that we're delivering information that you find interesting. This category does not include cookies used for behavioural/interest-based targeted advertising networks.

  • Functional Cookies: These cookies allow our Services to remember choices you make such as your user name, language or the region you are in and provide enhanced, more personal features and content. For example, these cookies can be used to remember changes you have made to parts of web pages that you can customise. These cookies remember choices you make to improve your experience. If you do not allow these cookies then some of the choices you have made on previous visits to our Services will not be saved. This allows us to tailor your website experience specifically to your preferences. For example, authentication cookies are functional cookies that are used for the duration of a session (or persistent, if you agree to the ‘Instant Checkout’ purchase function) to allow users to authenticate themselves on subsequent visits or to gain access to authorised content across pages.

  • Targeting or advertising Cookies: These cookies collect information about your browsing habits in order to deliver advertisements more relevant to you and to understand your interests. They are also used to limit the number of times you see an advertisement as well as help measure the effectiveness of the advertisements Instant shares. These cookies log that you have visited a website and this information may be shared with other organisations such as advertisers. Additionally, Instant may share limited data with other platforms to market Instant promotions, features, or new releases on those other platforms. If you do not allow these cookies you will still experience advertising but it will be less tailored to you.

Instant is dedicated to user experience and we use many tools to help us improve our Services and our commerce platform. To this end, we use reporting and analytics cookies to collect information about how you use our Services or our merchants’ storefronts, and how often. The performance cookies we use include:

  • First party analytics cookies: We use these cookies to estimate the number of unique visitors, to improve our Services and our merchants’ websites. We use these cookies to learn how our Services and our merchants’ websites are performing and make relevant improvements to improve your online shopping experience.

  • Third party analytics cookies: We also use Google Analytics and other third-party analytics providers listed below to help measure how users interact with our Services and content.

We do not set advertising cookies through our merchants’ storefronts ourselves, though merchants may choose to do so independently.

How long will cookies remain on my device?

The length of time that a cookie remains on your computer or mobile device depends on whether it is a “persistent” or “session” cookie. Session cookies last until you stop browsing and persistent cookies last until they expire or are deleted. Most of the cookies we use in our Services are persistent and will expire between 30 minutes and two years from the date they are downloaded to your device. See the section below on how to control cookies for more information on removing them before they expire.

How to control cookies?

You can control and manage cookies in various ways.

Please keep in mind that removing or blocking cookies can negatively impact your user experience and parts of our Services may no longer be fully accessible.

Options for managing cookies and interest-based ads

Web Browser Settings
Most browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can choose whether or not to accept cookies through your browser controls, often found in your browser’s “Tools” or “Preferences” menu. For more information on how to modify your browser settings or how to block, manage or filter cookies can be found in your browser’s help file or through such sites as: https://allaboutcookies.org/

Mobile Identifiers
On your mobile device, your operating system may provide you with additional options to opt out of interest based advertising or to otherwise reset your mobile identifiers. For example, you may use the 'Allow Apps to Request to Track' setting (on iOS devices) or the 'Opt out of Interest-Based Ads' setting (on Android devices). These settings allow you to limit the use of information about your use of apps for purposes of serving ads tailored to your interests.

Interest-Based Advertising

Certain tailored advertisements that display to you may include the 'Ad Choices' icon or another mechanism to opt out of receiving interest-based advertisements. You may click on the AdChoices icon or visit www.aboutads.info to:

  • learn more about the collection and use of information about your online activities for interest based advertising; or

  • opt out of having your data used for interest based advertising by Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) participating companies.

Furthermore, many third party advertising and other tracking services offer you the opportunity to opt out of their tracking systems.
